I want to study CS at UM-COE. I was wondering how difficult and time-consuming the engineering classes were. I mean, I'd hate to work on the projects for hours with sleepless nights only to receive a 2.5 GPA. Do any of you find your time to be manageable at UM?

How would I perform if I don't procrastinate, start the work right away, and manage my time well?

It depends on the class, but yes, some classes can be quite tough and extremely time consuming. That said, professors will always give you enough time to complete the work required, so if you can’t finish it, you have only yourself to blame. The better you know how to manage your time, the easier your course load will seem.

With the exception of 381 which is… Well, it’s 381, nothing is really THAT time consuming. I think I spent more time on 280 (no idea what I was doing going into it) than any other class, and that really wasn’t too bad in the scope of things. I spent maybe 250 hours on it. Though I never took 381 or 482.

If you’re actually trying, unless you’re just legitimately unintelligent, you’ll get above a 2.5. A 2.5 generally means you weren’t trying. Don’t expect a 4.0 but certainly a 3.0+ is easily achievable.

As for having enough time, make sure you’re taking manageable loads. Don’t take a schedule of 381, 482, and MDE or something. You might not yet know what’s manageable if you’re a freshman, but you’ll talk to people as you progress and you’ll figure it out.
