How difficult is it to get a Marshall scholarship?

I've been reading up on Marshall scholarships and people who receive a 3.25+ and beyond generally have an edge for that scholarship.

Do you know people who have received this scholarship? What was their gpa? Is it common to receive that scholarship provided you have a solid gpa and good EC's?

I'm deciding between UCLA and USC and I want to make my final decision soon. I'm leaning towards UCLA since there is about a 7k differential between the cost of UCLA/USC for me in terms of tuition since I received a grant of 18k at SC.

If this scholarship can give me a free ride at USC, I'd say SC would be a better choice for me.

moss,

I'd say from the look of things...all those 3.25+ scholarships are gone by now. Just a guess, but I think there is a fall deadline to apply for scholarships, and they would have notified you on acceptance. Maybe you should give them a call.

when do you have to notify USC?

Well no this is a merit scholarship for after I enter USC. The 3.25 gpa+ would mean I would have to apply for it after my first semester at USC.

i understand..., or you could have applied last fall along with everyone else for merit scholarships. With only a 3.25gpa, it seems like the competition would be off the charts, as that seems to be a pretty low gpa for scholarship. Do you have a link to that page in the USC website?

Also, when do you have to let USC know if you are going to attend? I'm just curious as to when they might be sending out more notices.

you have 2 weeks from the date of receiving your application to send notification.

Okay, the way I'm reading it, applications for the scholarships were due May 5th, 2006, and applicants would have to have attended USC for one semester already (to apply). So maybe you can apply in the late fall, or next spring, after you have completed one semester. Where are you seeing the "2 weeks from the date of receiving your application"?

And...do I detect some avoidance on the deadline issue? Would you be willing to pm me with the information? thnx
