How difficult is it to get in out of state

I am applying to UT as my 2nd choice (I applied to Emory ED), but how difficult will it be for me to be accepted regular decision?
I also want to get into the business school (but it might be too competitive?)....
my stats:

3.8w gpa
1950 sat (620M) (690CR) (640W)

I have a few sports and a couple of clubs as EC's, but nothing spectacular. I am also taking 3 AP's this year, and took one last year as a junior.

I think only about 5% of matriculants are from out of state. 15% are offered admission in transfers though.

Your scores are probably too weak and it doesn't sound like your ECs will help much.

well if it helps to elaborate on my EC's:

Symphony Band 4 years
Marching Band 2 years
Football 3 years
Crew 1 year
Model UN 2 years, including a regional award
Three months (over three years) of a language study abroad program in Spain

don't know if that helps much, but only a few kids a year from my school apply, and those that got accepted in the last few years had lower gpa's and SAT's.

Sorry to invade on the OP's post, but I am asking the same question.

Male
Naples, FL

3.3 uw/4.4 w GPA
21% class rank

2090 SAT (720 M, 640 CR, 730 WR)

National Hispanic Scholar
AP Scholar with Honor

Excellent EC's and good essays.........any shot?

you will prolly get in, MCP

I'm from Texas and people have told me that UT has reserved like 90 percent for texas high-school students. Write a killer essay to help your admission chances.

since you're a musician AND an athlete, i'd say that helps a lot! Make that your emphasis when you're doing your application :)

yea, emphasize the fact that you were in marching band, which takes up a ****load of time.

Definitely, emphasize your uniqueness! UTA loves diversity. :) Be careful though for the sticker shock, since you're an out-of-state. Also, business is really hard to get into, just for regular Texans, so you might want to apply to another school and once you're in, transfer to Business. Just a thought!

kcirsch has no idea what they're talking about. Are you kidding me? Getting in at top 21%. You probably won't even get into UT with that rank, most likely you will be capped or you will have to do summer school. I know people who were ranked top 15% who didn't get into UT undeclared and had to do summer school. Your sats aren't spectacular, writing score isn't included, if you look the writing portion says: Satisfied.

1360 is pretty good for UT though. I bet it will be a summer school admit.

It's a 1310 -_-

oh wait, we are talking about different people. Well a 1360 is good, but I'm in state with a sat over a 100 points higher than that and my rank is top 15%. I doubt i will get in

If you write a good essay you should get in

If you went to a good prepatory school maybe, otherwise good luck at A&M. They factor in your class ranking a lot. mcp has a shot with that national hispanic scholar.

does anyone know the numbers or percent of people that have to do the summer school to get in...and the number/percent that are CAPped
