<p>Off topic - but selectivity numbers can be quite misleading. The reality is that “big name” schools draw lots of applicants who are just applying to say they did or to please their parents, but have NO real shot at admission. Some schools purposely attract lots of these “faux” applicants (like U Chicago with their massive junk mail campaigns) while other schools attract primarily qualified candidates. </p>
<p>A huge number of faux applicants can drive “selectivity” numbers up without actually increasing the level of competition among fully qualified candidates. </p>
<p>That said, I’m betting Stanford is really among the most selective schools in the world. ;)</p>
