I am currently a senior in high school. I do not have high enough grades to get in to either of these UC’s at this point as I used to be an idiot in HS , but I had a educational transformation at the beginning of junior year. I am quite confident I can get all A’s in college. My main problem is that I really don’t want to attend a CCC, and would much rather be in a Private University. I am a California citizen if that means anything in terms of my chances. Thanks for the responses.
There are people who get in from non-CCCs. Beyond that we can’t give you solid advice as it is merely empty speculation…
Why not?
CCCs are significantly cheaper and maximize your chances of transferring to UCLA/Berkeley. Students from community colleges get highest priority during the admissions process.
If you’re really adamant about it, though, private university students get very low priority – in other words, it’s very difficult to transfer from those schools to the top UCs.
CCCs have small class sizes, and you really get to know the profs.
Go to a CCC. It’s not worth paying tuition for a private school (or having your family pay for it). Some CC’s have honors classes, and that may give you the rigorous feel that you want. It’s also much easier to transfer to a top UC from a CC.
You’ll also have a better shot at a 4.0 if you attend a CCC.
After looking this over I see you are still in high school. By the title I somehow thought you were already attending a private. Since you haven’t even started your college education yet, you should bite the bullet and go to a CCC.
If you think you can get strong grades, you can almost be assured acceptance, assuming you complete everything required.
If you really want a private, it is doable, but acceptance is about 10% - although I have no doubt part of that low figure is based on non-completion of major requirements and GE. It’s much harder to figure out when attending a non-CCC, and many apply without adequately preparing.
Now, I do know there is a mindset with some people that they absolutely will not attend a CCC. I live in that enclave so see it everyday. So, yeah, you can take the chance with a private, but make sure to make peace with your choice in case it doesn’t work out.
Thanks for the input everyone!
