I know the college application is full of different aspects than SAT's but this is just for a general answer. If I have a 2250 and say that another kid has like not perfect SAT but low 2300's, how badly does my chance go down to kids who have low 2300's?

The general consensus is that once you are in a certain score threshold, the difference between two scores becomes negligible; schools that use number-based rating systems, like Emory, set the highest category to 2250+. Obviously, you want to score as highly as possible, but there is really no no significant disparity between a 2250 and a 2300.

Even when it comes to the nitpicky schools such as HYPS?

The 75th percentile scores at the very top schools are about 790 per section. Simply, the higher your skcores, the better yourl chance. The common data sets has proved that over and over yet the myth here on CC goes on.

That said, a 2250 won’t keep anyone they want out.

There’s not much difference between a 2250 and a 2300. If you get rejected from an ivy it wont be because you got a 2250 and not a 2300+, trust me. Once your objective stats are that high; it all comes down to subjective factors such as essays, recs, and EC’s.
