<p>So...I've been hearing a lot about people having advisors and stuff to help them out and go over classes, but I have no clue what they are. </p>
<p>Do we get advisors after we declare?
What exactly do they do?
How does it work for double majors? (I'm assuming they are department-specific)</p>
<p>i can only speak for the departments i’m familiar with, but hopefully this clears some things up. i’m sure the other replies will help paint a be</p>
<p>
you’re assigned a faculty adviser a little while after you become declared. they’re there to make sure your schedule checks out and to confirm you can graduate on time / according to plan (a kind of in-person DARS report). for some depts, they’re also in charge of approving your electives. they can give you advice if you want it; my math adviser gave me a couple tips as to what teachers to avoid this coming semester + what would make my schedule a bit easier while still staying on track, but take it with a grain of salt.
once declared, you will need to go to your adviser for your infamous ‘adviser code’ to sign up for classes on telebears</p>
<p>aside from your personal faculty adviser, i think most depts have ‘undergrad advisers’ who can answer your drop-in questions pertaining to pursuing the major.</p>
<p>
yeah your assumption’s correct, if you double, you’ll have advisers in both departments. your adviser code is 4 digits, and each dept gives you 2 digits. so yeah. (they force you to meet with both, to make sure you’re on track to graduate in the major)</p>
<p>Makes sense - Thanks! :D</p>
