Hello, intercampus transfer applicant from UCSB to UCLA. I'm just wondering how Chemistry classes from UCSB articulate to those at UCLA? For example we have:

Gen Chem: Chem 1A, 1B, and 1C
Gen Chem lab: Chem 1AL, 1BL, and 1CL
O-Chem: Chem 109A, 109B, and 109C
O-Chem lab: Chem 6A, 6B, and 6C

I can probably assume that this will not articulate well with the 14 series at UCLA, so maybe with the 20/30 series? I'm mainly concerned with O-chem.

at UCLA the 30 series of O-chem is:

30A, 30AL, 30B, 30BL, 30C, and 30CL. Would it be safe to assume that if I have taken up to Chem 109A and 6AL at UCSB, I can continue with 30B and BL at UCLA? It looks like it articulates perfectly but I still want some confirmation from someone who has gone through with a science major transfer or anything of that sort.

Here’s an extremely helpful little chart for anyone transferring from other UC’s into a Life Sciences major at UCLA:

https://www.lscore.ucla.edu/new/news/syllabi/Spring%202012ARTICULATION_LIST_CURRENT.pdf

Notice that UCSB is a very weird case; you must finish your entire Ochem series (109ABC) in order for it to articulate. Compare this to other campuses, such as UCI and UCR, where individual courses in the series articulate with individual courses from UCLA’s series. Also your Ochem lab (6A) alone will not satisfy any requirements. That’s not to say they are worthless; all UC units are transferable within the system so you can still get credits towards graduation. You just might have to re-take some Ochem. I suggest that you try to get the series done this year, using summer if you must. It might not help you for admissions but it will save you from a lot of pain and suffering if you get in and choose to go to LA. Another piece of advice is to make absolutely sure that you have everything you need in order to satisfy all of the other UCLA requirements (especially LS1 and LS2 as SB has no equivalents of LS3/4).

Thank you for this chart! Since I won’t be able to complete o-chem before I leave(thats if I get in and decide to go) I won’t take o-chem unless I’m for sure staying at SB. Thank you!
