How do colleges calculate your high school GPA?

How do colleges calculate your high school GPA? I have heard two different things. Is GPA calculated like this: A=4.0, A-=3.7, B+=3.3 and so on. Or is GPA calculated like this: A=4, B=3, C=2, and so on, without taking the pluses or minuses into consideration.

They don’t. The GPA is a worthless number to them. They’ll look at your transcript, your class load/difficulty, and the grade you got in those classes. They’ll compare what you got to what your school profile says about its curriculum.

Some colleges use one system, others another. There are colleges that don’t recalculate your GPA at all, just like there are colleges that use methods even more complicated than yours.

If you’re wondering about a particular college’s policy, email that college with your question. If you’re looking for a general answer, there isn’t one.
