How do colleges consider independent study courses?

So my D's school doesn't include any course taken off campus, including univ/online courses, in the student's GPA. She would really like to take a math class over the summer to free up a slot in J year for an elective she wants to take (not a lightweight either--it's Civil and Criminal Law). She's aiming to take the requisite 4 years of Math in HS, but how will colleges consider that one of these was not on campus? Thanks in advance...

If she takes a course that is credit bearing, she will need to send an official copy of the transcript from the institution where she took that course. What the college/university she applies to decides to do with her overall GPA is entirely up to them. It really, truly, is OK to ask the admissions offices.
