For example:

Test 1: CR 670 Math 550 Wr 550 Total 1770

Test 2: CR 600 Math 620 Wr 540 Total 1760

Would colleges take your best scores: CR 670 Math 620 Wr 550

or

Would they just use the best set of scores: Test 1 since the total is higher?

Thanks.

It depends on the college. Taking the best scores of each section is called superscoring. So, when on a college website, look for if that college “superscores” applicants’ SATs.

Ok, so if a college does not superscore then they would just take the set of scores with the highest total?

If your child is applying via the Common App there will be a section where they can input their SAT scores from each section. This means they can effectively superscore it themselves, since they can just put the highest score your child received in each section’s box.

Good idea! I think all the schools my son is looking at uses the Comon app. thanks!

But all those schools will want official copies of the scores from the College Board and the schools will decide how to handle the scores.
