How do they find out if you committed a felony or not? When it says have you ever been arrested, how do they found out? Do they check your records if check either yes or no?

My cousin got arrested for shoplifting while I was in another store with two other friends. I chose to bail him out, so does bailing him out affect my chances for getting into college even though the convict was by himself??

When you previously asked this question this morning, you were outside, not in another store, and it was a “friend,” not a cousin, who was detained.

It seems that someone well-qualified for college admission would be able to figure out that bailing someone out would not be considered a felony by potential colleges. Is there more to the story?

But are you asking if they can find out that you committed a felony (yes, they can), or if they can find out if *your cousin/friend *committed a felony (which would have no impact on you or your admission…)

Bailing someone out has nothing to do with committing a crime, unless there was a misunderstanding and the your name is the one associated with the crime in the official reports/stuff. If all you did was pay bail from them, I’m not sure what you’re expecting to come up for your name, or what colleges could find under your name. Paying bail for someone does not constitute a criminal issue, I would think.

Whether they could find out or not: it depends on the circumstances, as your post is kind of vague in my opinion. Less likely than if you committed a crime I guess? I can’t see it looking negatively for you even if it did come up, just for paying bail, and certainly it is not something that requires you to check “yes” for the disciplinary question, if paying bail is the only thing involved.

We were at the mall, thus outside-at another store.

I am under 18 years of age, I didn’t sign any paperwork, all I did was chip in the pay the bail and I was present at the police station. So is there ANY way colleges can find out? Will they look at my record regardless if I check yes or no?

What makes your question strange is: Why would a college care if you chipped in to bail someone out? They do not care if you bailed someone out and there is no question on any application asking that.

The question is (depending on the application you are completing): Have you been arrested/convicted of a felony. If you have, check “yes.” If you have not, check “no.”

Are you being intentionally dense? What you are saying is not a felony so it will not affect your admission. However, your changing the facts in multiple threads makes people think you are actually the offender and that MAY be an issue.

One more question that isn’t answered. Can colleges get your records? Can’t someone just lie and check off “no.” If you said that you have never committed a crime, will they believe you?

Will they search for you records no matter your answer?

You guys never answered this question…
Can colleges get your records? Can’t someone just lie and check off “no.” If you said that you have never committed a crime, will they believe you?

Will they search for you records no matter your answer?

why do you care if you have never been arrested. And people have given you scenarios in which you will get caught.

BTW, is this the crime where you were with one other person and you bailed out your cousin, or the time you were with four other people and you bailed out a friend? Because you have asked about both. So, I am picturing that you spend a lot of time outside stores while someone goes in and commits a crime.
