How do Colleges view Pre AP classes?

Hi,

So I just had a question regarding Pre AP classes and how they are viewed by colleges. My freshman year I went to a high school in Texas that had “Pre AP” classes. I was talked into taking these because I believed they would show colleges I was taking advanced classes even as a Freshman. Also, they were weighted (not on report cards but apparently multiplied by 1.125 when sent to colleges?) so I thought it was a great way to start my high school career off right.

So I ended up moving to a new school in Georgia that does not offer Pre AP classes and the grades given to my new school were in no way weighted (because they only used my report card grade) So my question is how will colleges view them? Will the weight them? Because I got a few B’s and a C in these classes because they were more rigorous compared to the regular classes and I hoping it wasn’t wasted. Thanks for any help!

State colleges that recalculate GPA seem to give an extra .5 for honors and an extra point for AP. Pre AP is not as common but might count as honors. You’d have to check with the universities you are applying to though. Some do not recalculate at all. They should be viewed as more rigorous than general ed classes though and the school profile sheet will indicate what the most rigorous courses offered were for those grades. Since you transferred schools I’m not sure how that works but maybe the counselor can indicate that in his or her rec.

I"ve never heard of “pre” AP classes. Are all classes that are not AP called pre?

No. Some middle schools offer Pre AP and pre IB and some high schools offer it in 9th gd. It is not an official curriculum by College Board. Think of it like honors classes.
