Im homeschooled and I'm planning on taking AP classes this upcoming school year if the college I want to go to doesn't accept dual enrollment. How do most homeschool students take AP? Online? Can I self-teach it? Do I go to a high local high school? Any other info on AP would be appreciated. Thank you:)

You can take online courses (and there is much discussion on this group about that), or you can self study. If your local high school allows it, you can even do that.

If you self study, you cannot put the AP designation on your transcript unless you have your ‘course’ approved by the AP people. So, you leave AP off your transcript, but put the AP score on your transcript. The Adcoms are smart - they figure it out.

Either way, when it comes time to taking the exam, you will need to set that up through a school. Not all tests are offered at all schools, in fact, a school that offers all is very much the exception. So make sure you will be able to take the exam when the time comes.

I self studied for all my APs (my dad helped a lot on the science ones) and then talked to the local high school about taking the exams there. You can usually find recommendations for good textbooks if you search ‘AP (subject) textbooks’.
The cool thing about homeschooling is that you can start early, finish early, and leave yourself a couple months to go through a AP study book (I liked Princeton Review’s the best). And make sure to take advantage of all the past free response questions on the collegeboard site to see how you’re doing.
Good luck!

You can self study if you wish. I had mine use an online course. My oldest took the courses through PA Homeschoolers. He has taken: AP STATS, AP Gov and AP Chem. This year he will take AP Physics, AP Calc, and AP Economics. I call our local school districts to find a place for him to take the exams each year.

My son self-studied for some and took dual-enrollment for others. Be sure to talk to the high schools in early spring (Feb?) to get the tests set up - it can take a long time.

Good luck!

Yeah they do online prep or self study with the prep books. Then for the exam they would have to go to the local high school and sign up to take the AP exam
