How do I apply for scholarships? And how do they work?

I’m a junior in high school and want to major in a computer science degree. I want to go to Collin college ( My closest community college) and would like to know about scholarships and how to apply for them and what requirements do I need to apply for them? Also when should I apply for them? And while you’re here what are the requirements for financial aid?

You could try starting with scheduling a meeting with your guidance counselor to get some answers.

What is your GPA? Have you taken the ACT?

You need to reach out to someone at the CC for some information.

Go to the FAFSA4caster website and run the calculator to see if you might qualify for a federal Pell grant. Students whose EFC is $0 can qualify for a Pell grant of up to ~$5k/year.

You’re in Texas, right? Look up the Texas financial aid website. If you can’t find it, your high school guidance counselor should be able to tell you the link. See if you qualify for any state grants.

Students can take the federal student loan (~$5500/year). Repayment doesn’t start until after graduation. Don’t borrow more than you absolutely need.

Can your parents help pay for college at all? What are your stats? The best aid comes from colleges but goes to freshmen, not transfer students. If you have the stats to get enough aid at a 4-year school, it will be cheaper to do that. If not, attend the cc. Go to the websites of a couple state colleges and run their Net Price Calculator. That will give you an estimate of your net cost at that school.
