How do I calculate my unweighted GPA

So I am an incoming Sophomore in High School and I want to find my unweighted GPA. I have searched it up, but there seems to be so many different ways to do it. Here are the two ways I have seen:
A=4
B=3
C=2
D=1

And

Add up all grades and average them. Divide the average by 10 and then use the TSU calcualator.

Which one is the correct way?

That’s the only way I’ve ever heard of doing it. Unweighted GPA is pretty straight forward.

5 classes - A, A, A, B, B would be 4x3=12, 3x2 = 6, 18/5 = 3.6 GPA

Now weighted GPA…that’s a whole different story lots of different ways to weight.

You can also google “GPA calculator” and find pre-made programs.

Those calculations by @ClaremontMom assume all those classes are all worth the same. A 1/2 year class may be worth less and you would have to adjust them based on how many credits each is worth.

Good point @“Erin’s Dad” . The assumption I made was calculating the GPA using the grade at the end of each semester since I assume that is when most schools distribute grades (and each semester grade could be different for the same class). With that assumption a 1/2 year class would already be accounted for. I also assumed all classes were the same number of units. However, in college the calculation would be a little trickier since you tend to have some classes that are different number of units and that would need to be taken into account.

The correct way is to copy the number that appears on your transcript and save yourself from the arithmetic gymnastics.

Even better point @skieurope ! I was kind of wondering why the OP needed to calculate it (instead of just looking it up), but I just assumed they were wondering how the math was done or figuring out what kind of grade they would need on some future class to get a certain GPA.
