Can someone please tell me how to collect my financial aid? I am so confused...I am going to UCLA.

Please help :)

first things first.

did you apply for financial aid?

Did you get an award letter

Is your financial aid award more than your cost to attend UCLA?
if yes, then the school will refund you a check for difference late in the fall after they apply what you owe on your account to the school.

If your financial aid does not fully cover your cost of attendance, you will pay the difference

Yeah, I applied and checked my amount awarded online.

Thanks for the response, and is it the same like that with all schools?

So how do I use the money from my awarded amount? I'm still confused. :)

If you call the financial aid office, they have people there to unconfuse you.

I don't know UCLA but imagine it is similar to my daughters school. There all financial aid money other than work study money (scholarships, grants and loans etc ) are put into the bursars account. So say you have $15,000 in grants etc - the 1st semester half the award ($7,500) is put into the bursars account. Then all your expenses are charged to the account (tuition, housing etc). If the expenses are more than the grants etc - say $10,000 then you have to pay the difference ($2,500). If the expenses are less than the grants (say $7,000) then the difference ($500) is paid to you at the end of the semester. Then it repeats the next semester. If you have been awarded work study then you have to find a work study job and what you earn is paid direct to you.

Call your school and find out for sure - my Ds school has the info on their website - have you checked at your school? Good luck.

Also check whether you have to accept any awards and make sure to do so (having checked conditions first).
