Hi guys, I was wondering if anybody knew how we actually get the money in our financial aid package. So far, my financial aid package for UCLA consists of:

Cal Grant A: $6636
University Scholarship: $1500 (one year only i think)

Anybody know how we actually get this money? I researched and found out that Cal Grant money is automatically sent to UCLA, but from there does UCLA give us credit for that money off our bill? For example, my housing bill is $11727 and that is a monsterrrr...can I tell UCLA to use my cal grant for this and take off $6636??

I'm really confused on how when and how we actually get financial aid money....anybody?

Are you familiar with your URSA account? You get charged for tuition through your BAR. (View Billing Accounts on URSA)

When financial aid is disbursed, it gets subtracted from your original charge. You pay the difference. If you have excess, it goes to your bank account (through BruinDirect).

Like Emmeline said, if there's money left over after paying your BAR it will get sent to you through BruinDirect (or a check by mail if you don't have BruinDirect) and then you pay housing yourself.

You get a third of the total financial aid each quarter (mid Sept, early Jan, late March) which coincides with quarterly housing payment due dates.

Housing is billed separately. It is not reflected on your BAR account. You should check your housing account on housing website. During the disbursement period, your aid amount will be posted on your BAR account. E.G. if your finaid amount for each qtr is $1200 and total tuition fee is $1000/qtr, the difference of $200.00 will be refunded to your Bruin Direct. You can use that refund however you want. Vice-versa, if your finaid is lower than the tuition fee, you have to pay the difference by the due date, which is the 20th of next month after the posting date.I strongly advice you to set up your Bruindirect, you can your refunds faster. Go to the Student Accounting for more info and FinAid for disbursement schedule.
