I need help on how I could increase the pace at which I answer CR questions. In my previous Sat exam, I got a score of 440. Because of lack of time I didn't answer 15 questions. I also answered 18 questions incorrectly. It seems that I give more time to each question just to get the answer. I read the question like twice, go back to the passage(s), and then read through the choices.

Is this how people who score high marks answer the questions? Do you for every question have to refer back and read neighboring sentences?
Is important to read the passage(s) carefully and slowly from the beginning or is it better to read through the questions and then refer back to the passages?
How do I attempt questions which require me to consider both passages, e.g. 'The author of Passage 2 and the "..." mentioned in ...would probably disagree...'?
How should I divide my time in answering all types of questions in the CR section?

For a single passage, I read the questions, then read the passage through at a decently fast pace to just get an overall understanding of the story, as well as be able to answer any “main idea” questions. If the question refers to a specific line/lines, I put brackets at the first and last word, and then answer the question. You shouldn’t need to refer back to the passage more than 1-2 times.

For 2 passage questions, read the questions first, then each passage. A lot of the time one is more positive while the other is more negative, so I put a +/- next to each. Answer the questions, but don’t spend too much time on any single question. Keep moving!

Other than doing more practice questions and/or reading books / newspapers, there isn’t much you can do to study for CR. Study vocabulary as well.

It doesn’t seem like you’re doing anything “wrong,” per say; you might just be moving too slowly. Try taking a test with no time limit, and just do the absolute best you can. Then do a timed one with a 40 minute limit instead of 25, and move down to 35/30/25/20 until you can get the questions done within 20 minutes and have the last 5 minutes to go over any questions you skipped.(Skip the ones which are taking you more than a minute.)

Let me know how that works!

-- I only read neighboring sentences if I can’t find the answer without them.
