So I should have applied earlier, I know. But when I was applying early to all the other colleges, my parents made it acceptable for me to apply to a private school saying that they will be able to pay for a 40K to 50K tuition. But now they changed their mind saying they can't.. so I need to apply to a public institution that I like and Pitt is one of them.

Am I applying too late? I just put in my application today, I'll send my rec and transcript in as soon as I get back to school.

Here are my stats.

GPA 3.68 W
SAT 1850. 600R 650M 600W
SAT Bio 600 USH 620

I started a club, an officer in another, managed the swimming team, member of several other clubs and played baseball.

I got my recommendation from supposedly the best recommender from my school.

I think you are fine to get in, based on my son (in-state) getting in last year with slightly lower stats. Financial aid may be a different story, though, both for timing and the amount.

FWIW, I agree with your parents on the cost/benefit of a private school, and the costs of private schools have shot up faster even than health care. It would have been nice if they could figure that out earlier, but better late than never. Best of luck.

As a follow-up, Pitt waited for my son’s 1st-semester senior HS grades before making the final decision. So probably your mid-year grades will be important, too.

What amount have your parents agreed to pay? OOS costs for Pitt are quite high. Tuition at Pitt is almost $24,000 per year for non-Pennsylvania residents, and when you add on room and board and other expenses, you’re looking at more than $35,000 a year cost of attendance. Have you also applied to your in-state publics? Best of luck!

Thanks for the feedbacks! I think I’d be fine without any money if I get into Pitt though. My parents just weren’t ready to pay +40K tuition room and board fees… they pay for my brother’s OOS rate (because we’re international) to Maryland and it’s basically the same rate as Pitt so I should be fine.

Also, how big does 1st semester grades play? I kind of slipped a little bit. Nothing major, just one A the first quarter and mostly Bs. 2nd semester I’m working on right now and midterm grades arent too hot.
