How do I get faster on math SATI?

Okay. So. Here's the deal. I'm a really good math student in school (99 average in Pre-Calc at the moment) who really doesn't do as well as I think I should on the math section of the SATs. I took them in March for the first time and got a 2230 (800 CR, 730 W, 700 M) and I'm really not that disappointed with my overall score since it was my first time and it's a decent score. However, I know that I want to get my math score up more than anything, especially because I want to be a doc and am going to be applying to Ivies + competitive schools (I'm a junior).

I get the feeling from taking practice tests that if I had a little more time left before my math sections end, I could go over some of my answers and avoid the mistakes I make and just overall do well. I usually finish just within the time limit/with 3-5 minutes remaining (I usually use that time to rethink only the hardest questions). Any advice on how to improve speed? Any specific techniques while practicing that can help?

Thanks!

Practice, practice, and more practice. You should be able to solve every problem in under 30 seconds, or maybe a minute for the tougher ones. Go over exams you’ve done until you figure out a way to solve each problem in under 30 secs. SAT Math is about recognizing the problem, and then recognizing the solution. A 99 average in pre-cal means very little since pre-cal is not on the sat. Problem solving is. Keep on practicing and analyzing exams until you begin to see where you slip up, and go from there.

Again, practice. And work out the kinks on questions you have problems with.

I scored a 640 with little before-the-test prep. I’m hoping to throw that over a 700, maybe even a perfect with some intense studying. How? Study my weak parts – geometry and finding areas and crap.
