I kind of messed up my freshman year and slacked off which resulted in a 3.143 GPA for the year my sophmore year i managed to get a 3.8 and my junior year I got a 3.7. My final GPA as of right now is a 3.57. I really want to go to the University of Maryland College Park. My highest SAT score as of right now is 1570 I really want to try to get in the 1700-1800's my next time though. Last year I took 2 AP's and took honors classes my freshmen and sophmore years. This year I'm taking 4 AP's. I volunteer at the hospital, I'am active within my church, I'm vice president of Best Buddies and Secretary of Interact Club (club that basically helps the community by volunteering for different orgainizations) I cheered my first 2 years of high school. What do you guys think the chances of me getting into Maryland are? And what other colleges do you think I would be able to get in to with my information and also take into acount I want to go to medical school.
Please help me out and be truthful thanks!

your GPA is not that bad, and colleges don’t weigh freshman year grades as much as the other years. Get in the 2000’s on your SAT and a lot more opportunities will open up.

given your SAT and GPA, I think Maryland may be a reach, but you never know so you should still apply

UNC-Chapel Hill is definitely a reach since your OOS, only 18% of their incoming freshman class can be OOS (max), so it’s extremely difficult, won’t even be worth applying

Penn St. is a possibility, try to apply, but also visit the school, that is the best way to see if it is the right fit, when you visit the school you may change the way you initially felt about it

as for the in-state schools, i think you can get in to all the schools you have listed there, however you don’t want to go to ODU if you ever hope to go to a good graduate medical school, I would recommend VCU, it is a great school for pre-med, its reputation among medical schools is among the best in the nation, I know a lot of people that went there and they’re all cool people, again I HIGHLY recommend you consider VCU, visit their website, take a visit down to the campus in Richmond, and know that if you want to study medicine that’s the place to be

Are those GPAs weighted or unweighted? It can make a difference.

the GPA’s are weighted
& thanks for all the responses they really have helped :)!
