I've volunteered at a hospital, my dad is a physician, and I have a good idea of what to expect in the medical field. I still have no idea whether I want to be a doctor. I am a freshman in college majoring in physiology. The idea of engaging in groundbreaking research entices me, as do ideas of high salaries, job security, and a rewarding career. Then I think about the 8 years of med school, 100 hour work weeks, and minimal pay until my 30s. I can't keep going back and forth like this forever. I love engineering but I just can't imagine myself doing some of the higher level math expected. I am just in a dilemma and I have no idea what to do. How do you know if you will enjoy medicine? Any help is appreciated.

Maybe this will help:

also, may I recommedn talk to someone who's in that position, talk to someone who's in med school or residency now. The people Ive talked to tell me it was teh best decision they made. Sure its hard, whats not, but its the journey that they are most proud of. Don't let it get to you so much. From you screen name, I assume you're only 18, you're just getting started in college, dont stress yourself out, you shoudl really enjoy this time, you'll never get it back, trust me I know, me practically being your grandfather at 24. You seem determinded enough, you just have to clear your head, do a bunch of research, talk to your teachers, people in the field, determine ALLLLL of you options, then form a fool proof plan and go with it. Also, what many people have told me in regards to getting into medicine is that it's not your typicaly token "smart people" that are the successful in the field, but its the one's who work their butt off.
