Is Med School Right 4 Me?

How does one find out if being a doctor is right for him? My parents have been telling me since forever to become a doctor, however, I am not sure if medicine is right for me. How did some of you guys find that being a doctor is the only career that will truly make you happy? What were some of the activities or experiences that made you fall in love with medicine and what can I do to see if being a doctor is the right career path for me?

( I have thought about training to become an EMT during my senior year of high school and EMTing over the summer, but my parents refuse to let me become an EMT for reasons I really don't understand. I guess I can start next year at college though.)

as a fellow indian, i sympathize with you...

Go, spend time in a hospital setting. Watch doctors care for sick people. See if you think you can handle the emotional and scientific responsibilities. See if you believe that that's good enough for you to get up in the morning excited about your job.

You'll fall in love, or you'll feel as if you're glad it happens but that it's not right for you.

If you fall in love, there's still many points where you might want to change your mind, and you'll still have time to do that. But if you don't, it's good to know early.

aww venkat
