I am equally parts black and Caucasian but would prefer to say black. Living in a white city, I don’t feel I gain any of the societal benefits of being white and I identify as black. Would it be immoral to not put both down on the app?
You can select Black if that is how you identify. It is not immoral to claim your own identity. It isn’t like you are claiming a URM group that has not been part of your lived experience. Select whatever feels most comfortable for you.
Not immoral in the slightest. The vast majority of American “blacks” are mixed racial in their heritage. I’ve got a bunch in my own family and they feel the same as you do.
African-Americans are a unique mix. Alex Haley, the author of “Roots” once said that he looked forward to visiting Africa so that he “would see people who looked like me. But when I got off the plane in Africa and looked around, I didn’t see anyone who looked like me.”
