How do I recover from a dismissal?

Hello, I have recently been dismissed from UC Berkeley due to personal issues of my own. I had a rough year and I did some things I'm not proud of and because of some stupid mistakes I made, I got kicked out. I've decided to take a year off to get my life together and figure out what I'm going to do next. I had two years at UC and plan on taking classes at De Anza CC for the time being until I'm ready. I also want to transfer somewhere else to at least try and get my bachelor's done. Do you have any tips for me? Another UC is probably out of the question since they all share info, so I was thinking maybe a private college in CA. The dismissal will probably still be on my transcript so I'll have to explain it to whichever college I apply to. How do I show them that I've made a full recovery and am ready to take my studies seriously again? I've been seeing a counselor try and figure out my issues and things have been going well. I think it would be good for me to keep seeing him over the course of the year until I feel okay, but how do I prove this recovery to future colleges?

The best thing to do, is to speak with the people at UC Berkeley, and find out what you would need to do in order to be re-instated there. That will give you clear guidance about some specific steps to take.

If there is nothing that you could do that would allow you to be re-instated, find out what your records look like, and whether or not there is anything you can do that will allow them to indicated that you are considered to be “in good academic standing” when you do apply for transfer.

Do you think that would help? Academically I was in an okay spot, with a 3.6-8ish GPA. I don’t know much about reinstatement, do those happen often?

what’d ya do?

Some places will reinstate. Others won’t. You have to ask.

Were you on drugs or something? Perhaps you have to spill the beans about your past before you will get some concrete answers from here.
