Hello!

I'll be sending in my application at the end of October. My grades are slightly lower than the average for SBU, so I'd like to send in art and music supplements to help my chances. How do I do this?

Also, if I apply the week of October 21st, when should I expect my acceptance or rejection letter?

Thank you!

Hey, alyssashipman!

We don’t require that you send in art or music supplements for the review of your application, but you can send supplements to us via our email address (enroll@stonybrook.edu). Unfortunately, we won’t be able to return any application materials to you once they have been submitted to our office.

We won’t be releasing decisions until March 2014 regardless of when you submit your application.

Best of luck to you!

Thank you so much! In your opinion, does submitting supplements affect the decision at all?

They’re not specifically required for admission. If you’re applying as a music major, you’ll need to audition regardless of whether you send in a musical supplement. So it’s really up to you.

I’m applying as a Psychology major. My GPA for 9th, 10th and 11th grade is around a 3.25. I’m also taking college level courses and honors classes now and I have a lot of extra curriculars and good SATs. 5 people, my guidance counselor included, are writing me recommendation letters and I have a pretty well written essay for the Common App.

Stony Brook is my top choice. I’m just looking for every possible way to increase my chances of getting in. Is there anything else I can do?

Just get everything in to us; academics are really the largest piece of the puzzle. Best wishes with your application!
