I got the Collegeboard Official SAT study guide but how do I study it efficiently? Any tips?

do all the practice questions, preferably under timed conditions. if you run out of time, continue working anyway and finish the section up. be aware that the sat is mostly a test that assesses your test-taking skills for the sat. nothing substitutes for adequate preparation ahead of time and confidence when you walk into the test room that you’ll get the score you want.

you’ll have to develop your own strategies for attacking each section, but here’s what i did:
- critical reading: search google for an articled titled “how to attack the critical reading section effectively” or something along those lines. basically, to successfully attack the passage-based questions, mark the line numbers and answer the questions as you go. i also find it immensely helpful to tell myself that there’s one correct answer: if you’re stuck between two, one of them is absolutely wrong…there’s no haziness involved. also, try to answer the question in your head before you look at the answer choices as often as possible. if you practice in accordance with these tips and adjust them for your own needs, you’re all set to getting a super high score

math: if you’re good at math, the math test is not a measure of knowledge but carefulness. after you answer all the questions, make sure to check your work, maybe even two times. read each question in its entirety and ensure that you’re looking for the right thing.

writing: there’s another article on collegeconfidential called “how to write a 6 essay in 10 days” or something. read that…it’s really helpful. as for the multiple choice, i don’t have much to say. just practice, practice, practice.

nothing beats practicing over and over again. focus on a certain section if you can’t get the score you want. in the end, the sat’s nothing more than a test of preparation.

good luck!
