Okay, so let's say I'm taking a class called "Psychoceramics 101." There's a lecture class "001" and sections 002-010. The lecture (PSYCHO-101-001) is at 11:30AM to 1:00PM and let's say... PSYCHO-101-003 (a discussion) is the one I want and it's at 3:00PM to 4:00PM. If I register for this class, do I attend both the lecture and the discussion (section)? I checked the schedule-thingy for Fall 06 and it does not say one is automatically enrolled in the lecture course when one registers for a section (but, in contrast, it says this for other courses).

I'm sort of unfamiliar with the lecture/discussion format and what's required, and I'm trying to avoid potential scheduling conflicts, so any advice would help. Thanks.

When you register, you don't register for lectures unless the class is lecture only. You'll register for a section, and it should automatically enroll you in the corressponding lecture. I say corresponding b/c some classes have more than one lecture (stats, econ etc), in which case certain sections correspond w/ certain lectures.

I wouldn't worry TOO much about it...just have a list of about 10 classes that you would like to take 1st semester, and your orientation and academic advisors will help you schedule well. Also...I recommend highly checking out mschedule.com....its a java applet that is connected to wolverine access. You put in what classes you want to take, and it will put together up to 10 schedules for you to choose from...I've used it to assemble my schedules for the last 2 registrations, and its worked great for me.

lol....btw...i was just going to be mean and answer the question of the thread straight up.

Lectures basically work like this: you sit down, and a professor talks to you for a predetermined amount of time. You take notes and struggle to stay awake until s/he tells you its over.

Thanks for the info, that mschedule.com site looks interesting. I know what the difference between a lecture and a discussion is, I was just wondering if one attends both a lecture AS WELL AS the discussion when they register for a section. I was thinking contrary to what you said, that you either could attend one of the innumerable sections OR the lecture (unless specified otherwise), so I'm glad I found out now instead of later.

hahaha....yeah...i'm just having a bit of fun w/ you. Thanks for asking though, its good to get these types of questions taken care of antes de tu llegada!
