School: H&SS with undecided major

Thanks!

Hey Joshbear, I think you have a fairly good chance at H&SS since they accept almost 50% of applicants. Your SAT scores are comparable to their average, your GPA is slightly above their average, and your ECs look solid. The only concern would be there is nothing that stands out in your statistics. You obviously have some talent/interest in writing, so try to make your essays be what stands out.

I would still include your lacrosse award. While athletic awards will never be a major help, it can't hurt.

Best of luck in the college process and feel free to write back with any more questions.

Hey, thanks for the info

heres a Q

for my essay, i want to do my own topic ( via common app): The topic will be "College Admissions advice for rising 4th graders in the year 2050"

It will describe how the college admissions system wil be in the future, I can pm you my ideas if youd like.

does this sound like a good topic for my main Commonapp essay?( its different and quirky)

thanks for all the help

Hey, Joshbear, that sure is a unique topic. I am unable to say whether I think it's a good topic without some outline of how such an arguement will be constructed. Feel free to e-mail me your essay or essay outline (e-mail is kdbachovchin@yahoo.com) and I would be happy to give you my thoughts. I would also recommend getting advice/opinions from an English teacher at your high school on any essay you write.

I think that's a great topic. Some schools may not like it, but other schools will love it. That is, assuming you do a good job with the essay.

Hey Joshbear, thanks for e-mailing me. I responded with some suggestions/thoughts.

I think you are looking good for CMU. Your call if you want to keep the lacorsse on your resume. You don't have to mention you were cut if you do. Unless you are at the level that you can play college sports, it does not matter how good you were. CMU would be more interested in your interest in participating in sports, as they like well balanced students. They have intramurals for many sports.
