How do people balance great grades with a great social life and sports?!

It seems like all the popular sports playing partying kids in my school have a GPA of 3.9-4.2!

I can't play sports because of my disability, but I don't think I would be able keep my 4.0, play sports and be popular at the same time. 50% of the top 100 students of my graduating class are the super populars who are captains of their sports, good looking, usually have a girlfriend or boyfriend, and party (drunk) all the time! What is this sorcery? I think it'd be extremely hard for me to manage all those things and still get the grades they get.

Can someone please explain to me how those people do that?

Do you know anyone like that or are you like that?

Teach me your ways!

Please and thank you (:

Um, cheating? Happened in my school all the time.

Even though most of the populars were at the bottom, the ones at the top cheated on everything. Pathetic.

Social life - good grades - enough sleep. Chose two.

i think some people are just better at balancing more things. like in the same way that some people are just better at math. so i’m not sure there’s really a secret to it.

YES! I don’t get it. There’s this extremely popular girl who plays several sports and is in student counsel, National Honors Society, other clubs, all AP/Honors classes, and has a 4.0. She also told me that she goes to bed around 11-12. How… I have no idea.

I’m in like two clubs, volunteer once a week, and I struggle to maintain my 3.85.

They freak out a lot and are big try-hards, at least in my school

Yeah it’s crazy I got a 3.95 the 1st grading period this year and to do that I had to stop talking to EVERYONE during the week days. Monday-Thursday is all homework and no fun. Except for on the rare occasion in which I get a little bit of homework. But on those occasions I use it to go to bed early and get amazing sleep (:

It sort of depends on how well you balance things. 1st quarter grades come out in a week for me and I will either have a 3.9 or 4.0 with all honors/AP classes and a decent number of ECs (though no sports). I do most of my ECs with friends which makes it easier to have a social life, but I rarely get enough sleep.

What is this “great social life” you speak of?

Define social life.
Define party.
Because obviously my study parties with friends=great social life
Right?

404 sleep not found.

They may not take as many tough classes or they must be really good with time management.

Maybe cuz their classes aren’t that challenging…?

I disagree with that pick two rule. I always go to bed at 10 and wake up at 6, I have a 100 average, and I see a movie pretty much every week.

Seeing a movie every week isn’t really the crazy party social life lol

I think that its all up to the person! I’m an IB student I make good grades, not like top five in the class by any means though, and I’m a cheerleader. which may sound dumb but during the fall we compete and practice for three hours daily plus football games on fridays. Up until this year I’ve been able to balance that with a social life but now with my extended essay and college applications on top of all my other school work im struggeling a little bit. I have close to no social life right now but it honestly just makes it that much better when I do get to hang out with my friends. Sometimes I sacrifice a few hours of sleep to do something with friends but i think its definitely possible.

It’s my definition of a crazy party life. So I don’t drink or smoke pot, that excludes me from having a social life?

I don’t think drugs and alcohol are necessary components of a “great social life.” Quite the opposite, really.
Why? Bc conservative.

they are sufficient but not necessary :D

If you don’t sleep, you can’t do anything well. If you don’t exercise intensively and often, you can’t focus as easily, and you don’t accomplish as much as you otherwise could. If you don’t have several close friends and many good friends, it’s hard to feel happy enough to be truly, wildly, vibrantly energetic about academics.
