I'm wondering - Is it possible to have a 4.0 GPA and still have a life (in depth EC's + hanging out with family & friends?)

Easily 10char

Can you please explain? It seems almost impossible to me.

Depends where you go to school, whether or not you’re willing to cheat and how often, and how much sleep you want. At my school, you can’t get a 4.0 and go to parties. Unless you literally cheat on everything.

Totally. One easy way is for a really smart person to take non honors classes. He/she will easily get a 4.0 without doing any work. That wasted time will be used for social life. See that was easy.

Lol jking, of course hardly any real smart people would do this. These people can have a social life because all their friends are in their classes.

I go to a low-ranked public school. I think that in some ways, it’s actually more difficult than being a student at a high-ranked school/private school since my school is so lacking in terms of good teachers and resources.

I’ll be in all Honors/AP’s. Haha

Atleast in my school, no it is not possible. No one in my year has a 4.0 UW gpa (*who takes even a semi-rigorous course load); it just doesn’t happen, and hasn’t happened for years. The classes are too tough for someone to have straight As.

At my school, 97-100 is a 4.0 (not weighted).

So not at my school! :P

At my school, a 93-100 is a 4.0 UW.

How can a 97-100 be a 4.0? That’s straight A+, that would be a 4.3.

Anyway, I definitely know that it is, since most of my friends have lives and a 4.0. I myself have neither though (my 4.0 was killed because of a teacher error - but it doesn’t matter much, and my life is pretty much nonexistent during May)

Not on a 4.0 scale at my school, unweighted.

At my school 90-100 equals a 4.0

And our school doesn’t report Numerical Averages. Only letter Grades.’
So
90-100 A
89-87 B+
86-80 B
79-77 C+
76-70 C
69-67 D+
66-60 D
59 and Below F

My Grading Scale

A Average
B Bad
C Crap
D I’‘m Dead
F I’'m ****ed.

I had all A’s and 2 B’s 1st trimester = 3.63
All A’s 2nd Trimester = 3.83

My GPA

All All A’s 2 B+s 1st semester 9th grade 3.87

All A’s 2nd semester 4.0

1st Semester 10th All A’s 1 B+ 4.12 W 3.97 UW

Can anyone who has a 4.0 + a life please describe their schedule? :] It’s a mystery to me

Well, I would answer but I don’t really have a life though I easily could without sacrificing a 4.0

Gotcha… hm, well do you have time to spend on a few main EC’s, at least?

Yeah, my main ECs are robotics and MUN. I also spend over 200 hours a year mentoring robotics students.

Really all it is is time management. That’s the secret to a lot of things.

i have a 4.00 unweighted this year so far…

schedule

honors history
honors english
honors algebra 2/trig
honors chemistry
computer science
spanish

my ec’s:
political club
math team
acadeca
chem olympics
environmental club

my school is ranked 1 of the top 10 schools in my state. it is extremely competitive and many people work their arses off.

as someone posted somewhere on here, it is really all about 2 things:

1) Work extremely hard and get great grades
2) Be naturally gifted

I am in category 2. I haven’t really had to “work” at anything (academically speaking) my whole life. I can memorize things rapidly and also understand things intuitively. This allows me to get good grades and have a lot of time to spend with my friends. I’m ranked in the top 8% of my class. My other friend is just like me. He doesn’t work at all but is salutatorian. The rest of the kids work around the clock.

However, I’d rather be in category 1. I have a feeling my SAT scores will demonstrate my lack of work ethic and college will be a challenge for me.

A 4.0 at my school is a 90+. I have a ~95 average and I have plenty of free time. Then again, I’m only a freshman, so I’m probably going to get a lot more work later on, but I’ll still survive, haha.

I dunno. Maybe it has to do with not procrastinating and being very serious about my work. I do my homework right when I get home from school. Here’s my weekday schedule:

6:45 - wake up
7:30 - leave home
8:00 - arrive at school
8:30 - classes start
3:00 - school ends
3:00 - 4:00 - I’m usually at a club for an hour after school
4:45 - I get home and start my homework
6:00 - 7:00 - I finish my homework
7:00+ - I usually read, play piano, chess, go for a walk, study, etc.
10:00 - I go to sleep

It’s always worked for me. I used to go to an after-school class at a museum twice a week from 4:00 to 6:00. I would get home at 7:00 and still be able to finish my homework around 9:00 or 9:30, although my schedule back then was significantly more cramped than it currently is.
