How do people live off-campus?

I'm curious as to how people manage to live in an apartment that is off Campus. Where do perple usually go to buy groceries, supplies, and stuff like that?
It's my firsttime doing this, and it feels sooo different than dorming

Has anyone here tried getting an Off-Campus meal plan?
It seems like being 0ff-campus is more of a drag

the grocery store

The cost of the off-campus meal plan is way too expensive (so is the on-campus plan but you don’t have a choice if you are in a dorm):

For off-campus, the cost of a 75 meal plan per semister is $1280.00. With that you get $400 in Blue Bucks and 5 guest meals. So a net cost of $880 for 80 meals is $11/meal. For the 50 meal plan it is $11.80/meal. So, when you can’t cook or make a sandwich, eat good fast food for less instead.

If u get the 50 or 75 block, there’s also 400-500 Blue Bucks that u can use as well, so it’s pretty versatile I guess.

Can’t someone pay cash or Blue Bucks to get inside a Dining Hall if they don’t have a plan?

I’m just curious about this because it will be my first time transitioning to apartment life

It’s pretty pricy to use blue bucks/cash as a meal swipe. I think it was around $8 or $9 using blue bucks/dining dollars and $11.66 using cash, and that’s for lunch. More expensive for dinner.

Whereabouts are you living? Kerrytown, North Campus, South, etc. Closest stores depend on where you’re at. For groceries, there’s Kroger, farmer’s market, Trader Joe’s, babo, etc. and supplies can be found at CVS on State street or the Village Apothecary around C.C. Little. Living off-campus really isn’t that hard once you get used to it (sure beats living in the dorms). I would advise against the meal plan, unless you know you don’t cook often.

buy X dollars worth of blue bucks, occasionally eat at dining halls during lunch. Problem solved.
^That’s what I’ve been doing for the past 2 years.

If you have a car it is no problem, if you don’t have a car then you need to plan a bit. You may be able to take the bus to the Kroger near North campus or borrow a car. Use the smaller on-campus locations noted earlier for convenience stuff. Check out the Farmer’s Market in Kerrytown for fresh fruit and vegetables it’s not too far of a walk from central campus.

Most students move off-campus after sophomore year. Most also bring a car or have a roommmate that has a car. Grocery shopping is either at Kroger or Meijer. There is plenty of off-campus housing and a lot of it is in great locations.
