How do people live on their salary?

That was my first thought… I don’t even know how to respond to this thread because I live on so much less than this, as do most of my friends. I’m not quite graduated so don’t have to deal with things like 401k/insurance/student loans yet, but I fully support myself over the summer, living in an apartment in the middle of boston and going out fairly regularly.

I can’t believe spending $1000 a month on food. I spend around $300 (including alcohol) if I’m going out fairly frequently, and can cut down to around $150 if I’m really working at it. And to “only” have $1000 left for fun! Rough life!

polyglotmom-I don’t think you want to have the people at the Subway barbershop touching your hair. Especially if you’re particular about how you want it to look. They’ll get the job done, but you’ll have to watch their every move. There’s a reason cosmetology is a licensed profession (I’m using the word “profession” very loosely-“trade” would probably be more appropriate).

subway barbershop on 32nd?

there’s a great place on 31st and madison that’s super cheap and reliable (15 for guys)

much better quality than a well-known brand down the block

Unless you only eat a single taco or a Jr Bacon Cheeseburger for three meals a day I highly doubt this. $6 a week on meat & cheese from a deli counter and some homemade bread makes lunch for my girlfriend and myself for well cheaper I could hope to eat at the nearby Taco Truck ($4 for lunch) or my girlfriend can at her company’s subsidized cafeteria.

And this can only be done out of the office and in a restaurant?

Most of the time probably

You probably have to make do assuming you only make $70K. Relocation and security deposit, first month’s rent will erode all your after tax $10K. Your bonus won’t come till February, so you need to live within your salary of $70k so no $2000 apt. at least for the first year.

@First post: Easy. Get married. :)

you forgot to budget for the money you need to get a reservation at dorsia

This thread makes me want to puke…

try something called, being responsible with your money.

^ teach obama

mature comment.

Teach Bush (see: blowing a surplus on pointless wars)

^
using 10 years of tax estimation to account for 6 years of pointless obamacare. Glad I wont be around in a couple years when I hit top tax bracket with the increased tax.

You won’t be around? Awesome, more for me.

Yea, so pointless. Providing health care to 32 million people – utterly pointless.

^
you mean providing “healthcare” to lazy poors who cant provide for themselves at the cost of the people who actually work and pay the bills, the expansion of entitlements and transfer of wealth, then yea. As I said, us families in the top 1% household income earners pay for 40% of the total tax of the nation… but no, we should tax them even more to pay for more entitlements for lazy poors.

Healthcare is not a right. Individual property rights, however, is protected by the constitution. Forcing citizens to buy something by imposing a tax if they don’t is a violation of property rights and individualism. Forcing me to use my money to fund someone elses’ unnecessary entitlement is also another violation of my property rights.

“nor shall private property be taken for public use” - Fifth Amendment

You wonder if obamacare is so great, why did obama and pelosi etc exempt themselves from being in the new socialized healthcare scheme…

Wow, good to know you really are as entitled and out of touch with the real world as your initial post suggests.

You forgot part of the clause:

Private property can be taken for public use. It’s call immanent domain. It’s also called taxes. It is done on a regular basis. Try reading the whole thing and using complete quotes. You’ll sound smarter.

Due process isn’t violated either:

Just arguing the 5th not the health care law.

Now please let this tread die!!!

As much as the cost of healthcare is totally out of control, Obamacare isn’t the answer. At least not without some strong regulation.

That said, I can’t support any healthcare plan that doesn’t address the source of the problem-the insurance industry. Maybe try some model like one Switzerland and Holland have. But until the insurance industry stops being the gluttonous mess that it is now we’ll never fix this system. And btw I’m opposed to any healthcare reform that includes taxing people’s comprehensive health insurance plans.

noob question - OP said an SA offer
what is SA
