My D is interested in the business school and has heard much about the strong alumni relations. Does anyone have any specific information about students abilities to get internships and jobs from the business school? Thanks.

My D was an Econ major. She had internships each Summer and now works in a fortune 500 company where some of her co-workers and senior level people have strong ties to W&L. A parent of one of her W&L classmates has taken on a mentoring role with her, and that, I am certain was initiated due to their W&L connection.

Of course, that situation is anecdotal, but my point is that there does appear to be a strong sense of community among alums in the workplace. She also mentioned it during the Summer she spent working on Wall Street. She said she was surprised at the number W&L people she met there.

As far as getting internships and employment there are a lot of variables involved so I don’t think one can be overly reliant on those prospects based on alumni relations or the business school, but in our experience the school and alums were very supportive and helpful. She never wanted for internships or offers of employment or post graduate opportunities. That said, she does have a number of W&L friends that weren’t as fortunate so I don’t want to give you the impression that anything was automatic.

Based on my observations, students (especially business students) have excellent opportunities for internships. And it is amazing how many seniors are employed by spring of their senior year!

does anyone know if W&L publishes a post graduate report for jobs and acceptances to grad schools?

Have a son who is a senior. Last year he had 5 days of interviews for internships &
received 4 offers. Had to turn down invite to big NYC bank Super Day & others because
1 required a quick response. He had a great 10-wk paid internship that ended with job
offer but got another offer from a stronger IB - before senior year began. Alumni were
very impressive in terms of reaching out, offering to help, giving advice - this parent
is impressed.
