I used to think most colleges consider each of their applicants for all their scholarships. But now I understand that's not the case. How do you know which schools require a separate scholarship application with all the recommendations and essays in addition to the admission application (common app)? Do most top colleges require a separate scholarship application? Or are all scholarships given based solely on the student's common app?

It usually specifies on a college’s website whether a specific scholarship application is needed or not.
