right now, im thinking taking math and english. my thoughts are that studying for these tests will have a synergistic effect on my performance in the regular SAT'S.

any suggestions on how to decide what subject tests to take? personal opinions? useful resources?

You probably meant to say “synergetic” and not “synergistic”. As to the tests, just pick the ones you are most comfortable taking / most prepared.

^That last statement is bad advice, imo. If you are applying into engineering/math/science, you pretty much have to have Math II and another science. The third is a good time to show well-roundedness and take a humanity one. If you are applying into liberal arts, take a humanity or two and (if you want to appear well-rounded) a math and/or science. So, you have some freedom into picking ones you are most prepared for, but not as much as one may think.

^Agreed. Do not solely base your decisions for SATII’s on what you “like”. Make sure you have a combination of three that will show you are well rounded. One of the best combos in my opinion is taking a math, science, and history/language.

e.g - Biology E/M, Math IIC, and US History. (those are the ones I’m taking)

Or, (if you aren’t as into math/science) you could take a math/science, history, and world language.

e.g - Physics, World History, and Latin.

Just make sure to avoid submitting something like Biology, Physics, and Chemistry… or French, Spanish, Literature.
