I applied to Duke ED a couple of days before the Nov. 1st deadline. On my common app, I indicated that I’d like to receive an alumni interview. Is there anything else I need to do to get one or does it just depend on whether there’s an interviewer in my area and they’ll contact me if there is? I live in a small city in East Texas so I’m not liking my chances…
Yes, it just totally depends on whether or not an alum lives near you and is available. But whether or not you get one does not impact your odds of being admitted.
If you don’t hear back by November 22nd you may submit an additional LoR in lieu of the interview. It is not required and doing neither will not be held against you…

Be sure your student is checking their email including Spam file and especially their voicemail for a missed voicemail message. Beyond that it is just Alumni availability. No reflection on an application in any way.
