does anyone know… If son qualifies for 2/3 tuition now, and improves his SAT test scores by the required amount (30 points in his case) during the Oct test, can get the scholarship adjusted to full tuition?

yes, they will adjust his scholarship UP if he gets his ACT or SAT scores up to the right level as long as it is before the deadline.

last ACT - october
last SAT - november

Great! thanks for the info.

For the National Merit/Achievement/Hispanic Scholarships. It includes an additional $1,000 annual stipend IF YOU DO NOT receive a corporate sponsorship through the National Merit Competition.

yeah, you lose it if you get one of the 2500 dollar ones from NMC. its annoying because i lost 1500 dollars basically.

You shall talk to the school about this. Most likely they will give you the $1000 for the second, third, and forth year.

i did talk to them. They originally told me yes they would. But then i called them again and told me no. oh well,.

UA is very numbers driven, and the ACT/SAT is more important than the GPA, except for the true the “full ride” scholarships, in their case both GPA and test scores are important. Also, at least for in-state students, they seem to redirect the scholarship money as people choose to attend other institutions. DS made 30 on the ACT last fall and has only a marginal GPA. He received full tuition from LSU and $500 (total) from Alabama. BUT, in early July he got his letter from Alabama for full tuition. I can only assume that the scholarships were ranked by ACT and GPA, perhaps somehow divided into in-state/OOS, then they go down the list. Very important to meet the deadline. His app and scholarship app were in early, but that ACT score came from the fall test that was his last opportunity for scholarship.

DS1 got the National Merit scholarship plus a private scholarship

DS2 got the Presidential plus the engineering scholarship plus a private scholarship.

I’ve known others to get departmental scholarships on top of Presidential - especially some who do a double major. It depends on what major you list on your entrance application. The school does offer some scholarships for “current” UA students, but usually the best scholarships are for incoming freshmen (to attract the best students).

Usually you can “stack” scholarships unless they specifically say for “tuition only” and they total more than your tuition.
