title question...

we only got a list of our suitemates and were basically told we'd have to duke it out ourselves to figure out who rooms with who and who gets which bunk and stuff like that. so how do you do this in a respectful but efficient manner?

Hannah - I remember DD worrying about this as well as the uncomfortable situation of furnishing a room with essentially strangers with different financial capabilities. Somehow it all worked out, although at mid-year freshman year there was a switching of roommates for neatness reasons.

Your FroCos will be of some help, but as a mom let me suggest that via Facebook you talk about some objective factors - neatness, early riser/late riser, music on/off, etc. by making criteria non judgmental, easier to decide who should room with whom.

Which college are you in? In JE we were given a list with names and the assigned rooms.

Which college are you in?
In my college they assigned our roommates. I agree with worknprogress though, not only are those good because they’re objective, they’re also great because those are some of the most important things when it comes to who your roommate is.

Yeah, I agree with worknprogress. Only a couple things REALLY matter in terms of picking a roommate:

Level of neatness/messiness. Are you a clean freak, or do you live in squalor?

Bedtime. Early bird at 10pm, night owl at 3am, or somewhere in between?

Also, trying to find someone considerate is good. Since almost all suites at Yale have common rooms, any partying will take place there and not in your bedroom, so you don’t have to worry about that.
