How do you keep yourself motivated?

Since you're all such smarties, I wanted to ask you for some advice stuff. I used to be really motivated. Now, not so much. I still get good grades, but that's not the problem. I'm also applying to private high schools, so I have essays to finish and entrance exams to study for. But it's like after I finish my school homework, I SHOULD be working on the application stuff, but I don't. I start taking a "break" which leads into procrastinating everything. Sheesh, I need to get those done soon.

Any tips?

P.S. It's like I don't do the application stuff because I'm not "under pressure" to do them. I really don't want to wait until a few days before the due date to finish, it'll be too late.

Thanks.

For me what really helps to keep motivated, or just to do the work is to create a timetable to work on. It divides the task into small steps that you could easily do in between other things. That's how I got all my college applications done as well as my IB coursework. It all seems more managable when its in small doses.

Also it helps to look towards the horizon. If you know what you are working for and convince yourself that you really want it, it is much easier to do the work.

Thanks for the tips, they were really helpful.

some people work best under pressure (ME!) you're only in middle school, so i dont know how you "used" to be motivated because for me, i didnt get extremely motivated until first semester sophomore year. i was a bit of a slacker freshman year but now im like the most motivated kid in my class. you can finish applications like that a few days before they're do. just make sure (if you need recs) to ask for recs early. you've got a long road ahead of you, so dont get unmotivated now.

also --- your so young, theres no reason for you to be on this board. i dont mind it and its great if it motivates you to do well or w/e but dont spend so much time here.

For you, Spinach, spend 5 minutes watching your little sister on Myspace. If that doesn't motivate you to do homework, I don't know what will. :)

I joined here because there were helpful threads and stuff about applying to prep school. I don't feel like I'm spending too much time here, but I might get addicted soo I'll beware

Haha, my sister will scream at me if I watch her myspacing. "Go away! You freak! Stop standing over my shoulder!" But that's actually a good idea too.

well here's my logic.
hard class=pressure=challenge
-> procrastination in APs= more pressure= more of a challenge=thrill when i ace it

Yeah, I see what you mean and thank you. But I'm not having trouble in my classes, it's more of the "outside" things I have to finish/study for after my schoolwork.

oh for that u just have to force urself. I guess u have to be a little tense but still be able to trust urself. I did ED to columbia and EA to MIT and i finished all my essays like days before i sent it. THe only thing i can think of just get a little bit tense, but don't get paranoid. LIke a good way is to check other people's stats or even check like the admission rate and stuff like that. Good luck wherever u r applying to.

Thanks a lot.

Yale, fear of failure, Yale, parents, Yale.

That made perfect sense. sarcasm lol, What do you mean?

I MUST KNOW.

also for me when i do really well on something i usually get a little lazier with the next thing because i know i have that one high grade, sometimes it makes me think i can do anything and i do better but sometimes i just spend too much time "basking" in one success

When i start slacking off, i just picture myself opening the rejection letter from Stanford. That keeps me going ;-D

I take breaks when I am working and look at another subject.

College Scholarships.

I allow myself one prostitute for every A as well.

LOL, that's funny, Trader...

Anyway, I am motivated by thoughts of power, knowing I will eventually attain it when I am on the Supreme Court.
