When the subject you are writing about sounds like something the adcom wants to hear?

My DD's essay is from the heart, and well written IMHO. However, I can't get over the feeling that to a stranger (adcom) it might sound like BS.

I do! I'm writing my essays and it's hard not to sounds like your trying too hard to say the "right things," while in all actuality, I'm telling how I truly feel. It's very hard to show just how passionate you are without sounding over-played. :\ This is why I wish Vanderbilt did interviews. There's so much more you can convey in person.

It's not really about "what the adcom wants to hear." Instead, a good essay usually focuses on what the APPLICANT wants the adcoms to know about.

JIMMY
That's exactly what I mean. The essay subject is something that the applicant wants to adcoms to know about, yet reading it sounds like "something they want to hear". If you don't understand that then I can't explain it any other way.
