Essays for the Common Application...

Hey I was wondering if it is bad if I fabricated a story in my essays because, frankly, I'm having a really hard time thinking of what to write about.

Thanks in Advance.

IMO, I would not lie. Admissions officers, with their awesome mind powers, can easily tell the difference between a genuine essay and a fabricated one. Genuine essays have much more emotional depth. That being said, if you give a convincing argument I guess they would never know. I also had some trouble thinking about what topic to write about. A strategy that worked best for me was to just start writing, on whatever topic that came to mind. So far, after only two failed attempts, I found a perfect topic. Now what to write for the other one … :)

Thanks for the advice. I’ll see if I can get something legit going, otherwise, it’s time to use my imagination… which I don’t really have lol.

i wouldn’t lie, but to help spark some ideas, you should buy or borrow a book with sample college essays that real students wrote. don’t copy either, but you can put your own twist on a topic and make it unique

See the thread I just submitted called “An easy technique for finding a topic.”
