How do you make friends in college?

Hey, I have been in college for 2 years and can’t seem to make friends! I keep talking to my friends back in my hometown . but thats about it. Please help

@bopper has a great list of ways at the top of the College Life section.

I do think that text/social media, etc. has made it harder because people can keep in touch so much, they aren’t forced to make new friends. I mean that overall in the culture, not you.

Clubs are one of the best ways because you can find people who have shared interests.

As another user pointed out, join clubs (that interests you), you will make friends there. Also, the clubs may have free food for the people that attend.

Just start talking. Join clubs. Get involved.

I had a freshman comment that I seem to have a lot of friends and asked what I had to do to get them. I laughed because the only answer I could give was “Nothing” lol. I think if you just start doing and trying things you’re interested in, you oftentimes just kind of stumble into friendships. Try it.

I found a lot of my good friends when I joined some clubs that shared my interests. It’s very stereotypical, but joining clubs and making an effort to hang out with those people really help form solid friendships.

Senior Year of HS, my AP English teacher gave me this advice “wink at someone cute, and ask for a pencil.”

Years later, I ended up making friends by taking initiative to drop a hello to classmates next to me and attending student organization socials. I also made friends through internet through shared fb groups that other students in my school are part of.
