At staples, they usually have the cute, colorful school year assignment books with just enough room. However, I doubt that will suffice in college. What type of planners do you use or suggest? I am not into Palm Pilots (at least not yet) because I feel more dedicated to things in my own penmanship.

I just memorize things or if it's something like a math assignment, write it on the piece of paper I'll be using for it, which is always a looseleaf sheet for me.

i always had a day planner.. and i'd write everything in there... classes, work times, meeting times, birthdays, etc... DO NOT forget to write down your mothers birthday :P

i would just buy a school planner in the book store. it was like 3 bucks and the planner was specific for my school - it came pre-printed with school events in it, holidays, breaks, etc.. and it always had a 10% off coupon for each month of the year on something from the bookstore... which worked well cause the book paid for itself in no time.

I use a simple organizer that has space to write down when assignments are due, and my to-do list for the day. It also fits in my purse so I always have a place to jot stuff down. Palm pilots are a bit overkill for college.

mactech, I talk to people every single day at work who have NO clue what their mothers birthday is. A lot of times they have to actually go and ask their mother what her date of birth is.

I always memorize things and many of my teachers criticize me for that. (Btw, I'm a high school senior) I just cannot keep up with a day planner or anything like that. It's too time consuming for me, when I could just lightly jot down the assignment on class notes we took that day or whatever. But what I hate is having to carry all of my textbooks home for the shortest assignments...to the point where I end up having to carrying two, because my bookbag doesn't have anymore room..

Ok, I got a little off topic, but just thought I should throw that piece of information in there.

i never used a planner until college. there was just too much to keep track of. high school you just have your classes and your assignments for them. college is like, you'll have three classes a day, a club meeting or two per day, two group meetings per day, work for a few hours, etc. i need to have my planner with me to look over when discussing with a group from class when I can meet with them. without seeing what other things are scheduled i have no clue.

I started out using a planner.. but realized I didn't keep up with it & I didn't like having to flip ahead to see what was due soon. So, now I keep a 12-month calendar above my desk with assignment due dates written in.. that way I can easily see what stuff is due what day & what other things I have going on when. Professors usually give out a syllabus the first day of class listing when the midterms are & what assignments are due when.

i use a calendar which hangs above my table on a wall

the beauty of this simple design is that all your assignments and midterms are hanging there gleaming at you every morning and evening you get to your table -- nothing to turn on, nothing to set alarm to, nothing to type in or access -- in just one glance you know that the time to cram is coming upon you very soon, for example (and this is a cheap way to organize too) -- i fill in the calendar for the entire quarter during the first two weeks, once i know when all exams and hw assignments will be and then add things in as quarter goes on

I use a really basic month at a glance calendar, size 9"*12". It's been especially helpful in college, as assignments are given out mostly at the beginning of the semester in course syllabi. You won't have work everyday, and it's impt to be able to plan long-term. When you get the syllabus for a given class, just write in all the due/exam dates in red ink. Then you budget your time accordingly.

cosign w/ tracemhunter about ical.
it is awesome, you can set up alerts in advance and have them repeat at a set time. plus, they can be deliverd by email, script, or w/ a pop up and sound.

also, you can easily tranfer calendars to ipods and pdas.
i'm not pushing apple. :)

I have a basic calendar hanging on my desk, and a day planner (the typical one from Staples). That way I know when I have things both when I'm in my room, and when I'm setting up meetings, observations, group stuff, etc

I just use a weekly planner and write stuff down the day they're assigned with the due date... Calendars that just show the due date just confuse me.

I was thinking of getting a palm pilot. All the calendars (hour-by-hour schedule/daily to-do list/weekly & monthly) and notepad to quickly jot something down (i always need cuz i forget little info., like a cool song or whatever) are in it. Plus, you could synch it with your comp.

Does anyone else use a palm pilot? Is it very useful? or will a regular organizer suffice?
