How do you rank these public schools in terms of reputation?

University of Wisconsin-Madison
UIUC
Purdue
University of Minnesota-Twin cities
University of Texas at Austin

just out of curiosity:)

UW-Madison
UIUC
UT-Austin/UMN
Purdue

But that’s just my opinion.

Edit: They’re all good schools, however, and they’re very comparable depending on what program you want.

IMO (especially engineering):
Wisconsin = UIUC = Purdue = Minnesota = UT-Austin

Choose for cost and other factors.

~ 2,000 academics rated the schools like this:
Wisconsin: 4.1
Illinois, Texas: 4.0

Purdue: 3.7
Minnesota: 3.6

(aka USNWR Academic Peer Assessment)

thanks for comments guys:)
what about biological science /biochemistry? what’s your impression?

Wisconsin is probably the best out of the universities you listed in terms of bio.

Since you include the term “reputation” in your question, I am going to suggest that it depends on what part of the country you plan to take your degree to.

Southwest: Texas (obviously)

Midwest: in MO, where I live, Purdue has the biggest reputation for engineering, but not anything else. A lot is industry and location dependent.

Northeast: I lived in New England for 15 years of my adult life. Nobody there admits to ever having even heard of any of the schools you listed. Seriously.

Engineering:
UIUC (by far)
Purdue
Minn/Tex/Wisc

Overall Academics:
Wisconsin
UIUC/Tex
Minn
Purdue

As far as reputation is concerned in the Northeast, I’m afraid Midmo is right. I live around Boston, and most people I’ve talked to have no idea that Wisconsin is as great of a school as it really is. Or UIUC, or Purdue, or Minn for that matter either. Texas is well-regarded because of football :)

University of Wisconsin-Madison
University of Minnesota-Twin cities
Purdue & UIUC
University of Texas at Austin

Not sure I would completely agree…

Faculty in the National Academy of Engineering

Texas 49
Illinois 29
Purdue 20
Wisconsin 19
Minnesota 17

How do you get this

from this?

I’m not saying Texas universities are horrible to attend, though many are overrated.
