I'm a current junior, and I've been thinking about this exact question. See, I don't think I'm good enough to play my sport (volleyball) in college, but I'm a really good player (don't mean to brag). I've got in the paper 15+ times, and I've even been on TV once! I was thinking about sending colleges a scanned sheet of my appearances in the newspaper, but would that come off as conceited or something? Thanks!!

Talk to your coach, they’ll know what to do.

Colleges want to hear about who you are so that they can figure out how you will fit in at the school. If you are not going to play volleyball for them then they are not that concerned with you being better than someone else. The school would rather know that (proven by your volleyball) you work well as part of a team and that you work hard to improve yourself–all of which schools love!

Think of the number of people that play sports in high school. Getting in the paper is not that big a deal given the number of people that have been there. If you think you are above average then you should be talking to college coaches. You may find that they are in need of another player on their roster and you will fit in well (you don’t have to be a starter.) Coaches can help you get admitted and the school will then see how you will add to the school.

Otherwise, it is not that big a deal. Sorry.

On a side note: every high school athlete writes their essays about sports. Don’t do that; standout to them!

yeah it really doesnt matter that much unless you are good enough to be recruited.
