As we know, Syracause and RPI are both provide the 5-years B.ARCH degree, they are also old-brand famous architecture schools. But how do you think about Syracause and RPI ? What the difference in their education or design style ? Please tell me your opinion. thanks

I don’t know much about RPI but my daughter is in Syracuse now, first year student. They expect a lot in the first year and the work load is heavy but I think they are weeding out people. She loves the professors there, most of them are architects who are doing realy projects, so they are learning the real stuff… and the facility is really nice. If you go to Syracuse, expect a lot of work, they don’t have much time to go socializing like the other freshmen. BTW, Syracuse is now ranked #2 for B. Arch program.

If you live in the area, you should go and spend some time with the current students there.

Both are respectable colleges, with Syracuse’s arch program ranking in the tops consistently and RPI’s status as a hidden ivy. SU’s arch program is definitely stronger, though.

I will be applying to both if I do not get into Cornell ED, and i can say that to me, SU’s biggest minus is the lack of anything to do nearby, and RPI’s is their guy/girl ratio.

Hey Arctic92, I like your reasoning … lol. But don’t worry, you won’t have time to do anything outside of the archi building.

ditto golflover’s assessment: my daughter (who is in Newhouse) says that she has NEVER seen her HS classmate that’s in arch…apparently they live at The architecture building 24/7

Rodney, I think they call them the arch phantoms.

10years, according to my daughter, the professors are really good at SU. Most of them are practicing architects, something you should ask the school.

Great website that breaks down the fundamentals of what you’ll be learning.

syracuse has a great architecture program (#2!) and their study abroad program in florence is fabulous. they sometimes cross professors with cornell too (such as richard rosa). the one downside abotu syracuse now is that until they have their new building, the students work in a studio off campus, so they are somewhat isolated.

Laurstar07, their new building is already done. They are back to Slocum Hall, very nice place.
