How does a congressional internship look on a resume if I don't want to work in politics?

Hello,

I am a junior studying economics and decision sciences. I have a broad array of interest in fields such as finance, economic research, data science, and blockchain. Being a top student in my field I have been given the opportunity to work in DC as a congressional intern with all expenses paid by my school and over a semester worth of units. I will be working with a Congressman making policy on a topic in my interests listed above. I have previous work experience in finance and being in the Silicon Valley, I am interested in working for a big tech company one day.

My question is how will the congressional internship look in the eyes of a future employer at such a company? Is it translatable in anyway professionally? After I return from DC, I will be working on a major paper connecting this experience with many of my interests for my college to publish.

I have also always dreamt of working on capitol hill since I was a child, so if it doesn’t translate to tech, data, blockchain, or finance I will survive. I would just like to know what a third party thinks of the experience.
