How does a high school grade methodology impact university chances.

For example: My high school is in the top ten for Newsweek and UNSWR

But, they don't weight any classes except AP. Even "honor" classes don't receive an extra grade point.

This ends up with me having a 4.23 that could plausibly be a 4.6+.

Do colleges take into account the fact the schools don't weigh much of anything?

Your school should include a profile that will explain how it handles weighting. The profile includes a lot of information such as how many students take honors and AP classes and how they score, how many students earn a certain GPA, and quite a bit of other information. Most schools have regional admissions people who are familiar with which schools are more rigorous; that explains why someone with a lower GPA from a school with more rigorous standards might be accepted over a higher GPA. Often students from the rigorous schools will score higher on SATs as well. Many colleges recalculate.
